Da Capo Early Music Learning
Stella Calver grew up in Norfolk in a musical family. She studied piano with Wanda Jeziorska and gained Licentiates in Piano Teaching and Performing from Trinity College of Music. It was at a Piano Teaching conference that she first observed DaCapo in action and was instantly struck by the accessibility of the teaching approach. Having received the in-house training for Early Years, Junior and Instrumental teaching, Stella set up Da Capo Norfolk (primarily for her two young children). Stella was inspired by how extensive the learning was – how many fundamental principles were absorbed unconsciously by the children, while having fun and forging long-lasting friendships.
What also impressed her was how the children developed as musicians not just ‘instrumentalists’, each mastering 2 or 3 instruments, playing together in various ensembles, chamber groups and even forming a folk band, also enjoying performing in many local concerts and festivals.
Stella has since pursued her passion for Primary Education – holding Director of Music and Head of Music positions in schools in Suffolk, West London and South East London, gaining her PGCE (Music) from Edgehill University and the Foundation Award from The Dalcroze Society (UK).
Since returning to Norfolk, Stella is excited about setting up a DaCapo Centre in partnership with a local Music Centre and collaborating with other musicians in chamber and accompanist roles.
Allens Music Centre, in Great Yarmouth is the home to Allens Music School with bespoke teaching studios situated above the main store in the centre of the town.
